Description
This year, we have chosen REST as our theme to explore and amplify! Inspired by Tricia Hersey’s book “Rest is Resistance” which is rooted in Black liberation theology, rest is a radical way to push against grind-culture and a way to subvert the narrative of productivity at all cost. Embracing rest is a way to reclaim our humanity, slowing down is a tool to oppose capitalism and white supremacy, and napping can be a healing spiritual practice.
Proceeds from calendar sales this year will be donated to Empire of Dirt Residency in the form of a scholarship for a BIPOC artist seeking rest and nourishment. Empire of Dirt (EoD) Residency is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Yaqan Nukiy within the Ktunaxa Nation, also known as Creston, British Columbia, Canada. EoD is an artist-run, non-profit organization that fosters a nurturing environment for contemporary visual artists and writers to freely explore their practices, expand them in unexpected ways, and connect, whenever possible, with the local community.
